OUTSTANDING PLACES I VISITED IN TEXAS by Paula

Hey it's Paula! Today's post is about 3 unique places I visited in Texas state. Some of them are really interesting and unusual in comparison with Spain. Let's get started !
¡Hey, soy Paula! y el post de hoy es sobre 3 lugares únicos que visité en el estado de Texas. Algunos de ellos son realmente interesantes y no muy comunes en comparación con España. ¡Empecemos!
1)NASA 
I have always wanted to visit this spectacular place because I believe that it's extremely relevant for humanity as this space center  sent the first man to the moon! Besides everything associated with space is very interesting for me because we never know what we could have in the space. I remembered when in my childhood I used to browse online for planets and universe, aye, it was a dream came true.
 Basically I visited the training center where some engineers have their area to calculate and resolve stuff to ensure that  everything is right for the next step, I also had the chance to see the incredible rocket in a real size and some spacial costumes and information that were provided.


Siempre quise visitar este sitio porque creo que es súper importante para la humanidad ya que esta estación espacial mandó el primer hombre a la luna (o eso aseguran). Además todo lo relacionado con el espacio es muy interesante para mí porque nunca sabemos que podríamos tener en el espacio. Aún me acuerdo cuando en mi infancia, solía investigar planetas con mi hermana en la web o con libros. Sí, ir a la NASA fue un sueño hecho realidad. 
Basicamente visité el centro donde entrenan a los astronautas y donde los ingenieros calculan diferentes operaciones para asegurar que todo estea correcto para la próxima misión en el espacio, también tuve la ocasión de ver una nave espacial en tamaño real e información y trajes espaciales. ¡Realmente una increíble experiencia!

2)GEORGE RANCH HISTORICAL PARK (VERY TEXAN!) 

Even though I visited this ranch at the very beggining of my adventure, I would like to share to you guys as it contains an important background of Old Texas and typical traditions.Through the visit I discovered how texans used to live in farms. Everything in that period was way more different than it is now, kids had a lower status in the society and women had strict dresscode, also their living conditions weren't very good as they didn't have much resources. Finally I could see the traditional texan cowboy and the typical animal in Texas: the longhorns.

Aunque visité este lugar al principio de mi aventura, me gustaría compartirlo con vosotras ya que contiene muchas cosas importantes sobre Texas y sus tradiciones. A través de la visita descubrí como los tejanos solían vivir en granjas, todo en ese tiempo era muy diferente a lo que es ahora. ¿Sabías que los niños estaban considerados inferiores que los adultos o que las mujeres tenían que seguir estrictas reglas en la vestimenta? Sus condiciones no eran muy buenas ya que no tenían muchos recursos. Por fin pude ver cowboys y el típico famoso animal de Texas: el toro con cuernos largos.

3)BRAZOS BEND STATE PARK 

 Let's visit a park to spend the day. Well, if a person told you that you expect a peaceful and relaxing place to stay at . There was a missing clue though, the place was the alligators habitat!! That's not a big deal for  Texans as alligators could live in lakes and it is very popular in the area but for me alligators means fear haha, ar first I was very scared but then I started to appease myself because they didn't do anything , they were just sunbathed and chilling on the grass and inside the lake. I would never forget this unbelievable experience.I honestly had fun while taking pictures and walking around the beautiful countryside of the park.

Visitemos un parque para pasar el día. Bueno, si una persona te dice eso tú te esperas un lugar relajado para estar ¿a no ser que te digan que ese lugar es el natural habitad de los caimanes! Eso no es nada nuevo para los Tejanos ya que esos animales son típicos en su zona y viven en los lagos. Para mí en cambio, sí es para tanto porque son caimanes y sólo los veo en Zoos no en su natural habitat. Al principio, estaba muy asustado pero después empecé a calmarme porque realmente los caimanes no hacían nada, sólo estaban tomando el sol o mismo relajados en la hierba o en el lago. Nunca olvidaré esta inolvidable experiencia. Sinceramente, me lo pasé genial sacando fotos mientras paseaba en el precioso campo del parque.

Expectations vs Reality USA by Patricia

When finally my sister and I made the decision of changing our life completely going on an exchange program for ten months to the United States, we didn't realize how everything would be different. Days, weeks, and months waiting for my final destination was worth it when they told me that I was going to The Fabulous Las Vegas!. I couldn't believe that my dream has been accomplished.

It was in August 17th, when finally I was taking off to New York and eventually Las Vegas.

Okay, everyone has expectations and then realities of the United States and obviously Las Vegas. 

But what kind of expectations?

We usually have plenty of them, the basic ones are: 

High School: we usually think that the high school is gonna be another world. As the American movies that we watch, we think there is gonna be these mean popular girls, even we think that the high school is a musical, using lockers and stuff.

 Food:  two key words: fast food. 

Fashion: Personally I thought that the US was one of the capitals of the fashion world. 

Now then let's check the reality:

High School: the facilities don't change at all. The major reality is that is not like the movies. There are not mean girls, bye bye musicals and in most of the high schools like mine we don't use lockers.

Food: Although they do have fast food. Americans like Mexican food so bad.

Fashion: the expectations are overrated. People wear crocs and flip flops with socks and they even wear pajamas. Besides there is a dress code in the high school. We cannot wear shorts, crop tops and stuff. People here like to wear college and universities clothing. A very "sport" look.  

With this writing, I don't want to get anyone American ofended. After all everyone has expectations and realities in every single country. Don't misunderstand me. I love America and I'm having a reallly good time!

 

SPANISH WRITING

Futuro. Cambio de la rutina. Nuevas experiencias, culturas. Ver la vida desde una forma diferente. Crecer. Depender de ti misma. Inglés. Vida. Viajar. Explorar :Estados Unidos. Cuando por fin tomamos la decisión de cambiar nuestra vida al completo yendo diez meses a Estados Unidos no nos hacíamos la idea de que todo sería tan diferente. Días, semanas y meses esperando a que me diesen el destino valió la pena cuando me dijeron que iba a Las Vegas. No me lo podía creer mi sueño se hacía realidad.

Fue el 17 de agosto cuando por fin tomaba el vuelo para ir a Nueva York y más tarde… Las Vegas.

Bien, para empezar todo el mundo tiene expectaciones y realidades de Estados Unidos  y obviamente de Las Vegas.

Normalmente solemos tener muchas expectaciones, las más básicas son:

Insituto: solemos pensar que el insituto va a ser otro mundo. Al mirar las peliculas típicas americanas, pensamos que va a haber las típicas chicas malas, incluso pensamos que el insituto es un musical, y que usamos taquillas y demás.

 Food: dos palabras: comida rápida.

Moda: Personalmente pensaba que los Estados Unidos era una de las capitales de la  moda.

Ahora veamos las realidades:

Insituto:   las instalaciones no cambian para nada. La realidad más clara es que no es tan de película como pensamos. No hay las típicas chicas malas, adiós a los musicales y en la mayoría de los institutos como el mío no usamos las taquillas.

Comida:  Aunque si que tengan comida rápida, a los americanos les gusta la comida mejicana mucho.

Moda: las expectaciones están sobrevaloradas. La gente lleva chanclas y the expectations are overrated. People wear crocs and flip flops with socks and they even wear pajamas. Besides there is a dress code in the high school. No podemos llevar pantalones cortos, crop tops y demás. La gente aquí suele vestir con sudaderas/jerseys en relación con la universidad. Un look muy deportivo.
 

 Con estes detalles no quiero ofender a nadie americana. Después de todo todo el mundo tiene expectaciones y realidades en cada país. Incluso en España. No me malinterpretéis. A mí me encanta América y estoy pasándolo genial!

Presentation of the blog/ Presentación del blog

Hey everyone!
So this just happened. It was kinda planned at first, but we didn´t have the guts to do it. Eventually our own motivation and inspiration gave us the chance to do finally our first blog!

As you can see in the description or introduction in the main page of the blog: this is a blog telling you guys our experience in the United States of America divided in two different places: Las Vegas (North Las Vegas and Texas (Sugar Land). This is not just a blog about our foreign exchange program or adventure. It also has a little bit of everything. Kinda random I guess. Fashion, photoshoots, cultures, what we like, advices, etc.
But first off, back up. I think I'm talking too much. I guess I'm excited. The aim of this post was to point out a presentation of who we are, what we do, where do we come from.

Okay, our names are Patricia and Paula Barrio Oton. We are from the generation of 1999. We were borned in the North of Spain, Galiza.

This is me Patricia Barrio you can call me Patri or Patty(this is the American way hehe since American people can't double the "r" or not even pronunicate that word, no offense) . I'm the one is staying in North Las Vegas. I'm sixteen years old but actually I'm gonna be seventeen in a little bit. My favorite colour is pink. I'm easygoing, open-minded, honest, sweet, funny and myself. I love being random, fashion, glam, supportive, funny, positive.
Music: Honestly I like all kind of music I'd say that pop is my fav exclusiving country which has never attracted me at all.
Shows: I love Gossip Girl, Velvet, Cuéntame como  pasó, MasterChef, Scream Queens ...
Movies: Harry Potter movies (yes I'm a geek af), Mean girls, Clueless, Disney Movies,  The Princess ,The Impossible,Diaries, Olsen Twins movies, and you know comedy movies and girly movies in general. I hate horror movies.
 Books: I like reading but I never find the perfect time to do it so let's just say that I don't read as much as I would like to read but I'm okay with that. My favorite book is "Donde los árboles cantan".
Hobbies: go shopping, hanging out with friends, sleeping, chilling, watch youtube videos, listening to music, helping others out..

Pues esto pasó. Estaba como planeado al principio, pero nunca tuvimos el valor de hacerlo. Con el paso del tiempo nuestra propia motivación e inspiración nos dió la oportunidad de crear nuestro primer blog!

Como podéis ver en la descripción o introducción en la página principal del blog: este es un blog contándoos la experiencia en los Estados Unidos de América de dos estudiantes de intercambio en diferentes sitios: Las Vegas (Norte de Las Vegas) y Texas (La Tierra del Azúcar), este nombre se debe a que en este sitio se producía mucho azúcar en el pasado y había muchas fábricas . Esto no es sólo un blog de nuestro programa de intercambio y aventuras, no. Esto es algo aleatorio, supongo. Moda sesiones de fotos, culturas, que nos gusta, etcétera. Pero en primer lugar, creo que me estoy enrollando un poco. Es que estoy súper emocionada de que por fin esto haya pasado . Bueno finalmente quiero añadir  quienes somos, qué hacemos, de donde venimos, etc.

Vale, nuestros nombres son Patricia y Paula Barrio Oton. Somos de la generación del 99. Nacimos en el norte de España, Galicia.

Esta soy yo Patricia Barrio, puedes llamarme Patri or Patty (esta la forma americana ya que aquí la gente no puede doblar la "r"  o ni siquiera pronunciarla, sin ofender). Soy la que está en el Norte de Las Vegas. Tengo dieciseis años pero en nada tendré diecisiete. Mi color favorito es el rosa. Soy tolerante, habladora, dulce, divertida, positiva,, etc.

Música: En realidad me gusta todo tipo de música,(yo diría que el pop es mi género favorito) eso sí nunca me ha atraído el country.

Programas de Televisón: Reina Cotilla, Velvet, Cuéntame como pasó, Velvet, MasterChef, Scream Queens ...

Peliculas: Las pelis de Harry Potter y las comedias y peliculas que todos hemos visto. Odio las peliculas de terror. Lo imposible es una de mis favoritas también.

 Libros: Me gusta leer pero no encuentro el tiempo exacto para leerlo, aunque sí que me gustaría leer más libros. Mi libro favorito es "Dónde los árboles cantan".

Tiempo de lecer: me gusta ir de compras, salir con los amigos, dormir, descansar, ver vídeos en youtube, ayudar a otros...

So it's my turn! As my sister wrote I am very excited because we got this done at last :) We've been thinking on creating it but we never did it. My new motto is: 'Stop thinking and start doing'. Well, I better start haha, alright so guys, my name is Paula Barrio Oton and I am the twin sister of Patricia. I like fashion, animals, exploring new things, shopping. To sum up, I'm very alike to my sister, most of the stuff she named out, it's basically what I like, nevertheless we can be very different in some aspects such some type of styles or behavior. 
 Music: I like pop very much but since I dweell in the states I can't stop listening to American hihop tbh.
TV programmes: Gossip Girl, Velvet, Tell me what happened,  Masterchef, Breaking Bad, Nobody can live here...
Movies: Harry Potter, The Impossible, and the ones my sister conveyed.
Books: The girl of the Sixth Moon, Songs for Paula (I love Blue Jeans), MH...
Free time: shopping, sleep, watch TV, watch different fashion pages on Instangram, hang out with friends...

¡Bueno es mi turno! Como mi hermana escribió yo tambíen estoy muy emocionada porque por fin creamos esto :) Estuvimos pensando en crearlo pero nunca lo llegamos a hacer. Mi lema es : 'Deja de pensarlo y empieza a hacerlo'. Bueno, mejor empiezo jaja, bien vale chicos, mi nombre es Paula Barrio Oton y soy la hermana gemela de Patricia. Me encanta la moda, los animales, explorar nuevas cosas, comprar. Resumiendo, me gusta la mayoria de cosas que mi hermana dijo, tenemos gustos muy parecidos, no obstante podemos ser muy diferentes en muchos aspectos como el tipo de estilo o en la actitud a veces.
